Some up, Some down

 I have been so excited that this hairstyle has made a comeback. It gives me yet another hairstyle to turn my bad hair days into a trendy hair day! What I think makes this one special is that I've actually fishtailed the entire section in the ponytail. I always struggle with getting volume in the top to make a bun so I figured why not add some texture in myself.
 





Step 1: Pull as much hair as you want into the top section and tie into a ponytail.
Step 2: Fishtail the entire pony and then pull out the braid so it gets huuuuggeeeeee.
Step 3: Wrap your braid around into a bun and pin as you go. Make sure to hide the elastic.

Surprise!!

Soooooooooo my teacher gave us extra time on our assignment so I figured why not post another style for you guys! Yaaayyyyyy (clapping hands emoji). This one is kinda tricky but with some concentration I got it on my first try.



Step 1: Start with a MAAAAJOR side part (thank you 'Scene" middle school years). 
Step 2: Take 3 sections to start your braid and take the sections UNDER. We're doing another underbraid today.
Step 3: Incorporating new hair as your braid down (french braid) until you get right below your ear.
Step 4: This is the tricky part, but don't worry I believe in you! Switch your hand position so your arm is around the back of your head. This is going to make it easier to braid along the nape of your hair. 
Step 5: Continue french braiding until you get to the back of your opposite ear and then switch your hand position again to the original way.
Step 6: Finish off the braid by french braiding back up the head toward your part from the beginning.
*Step 7: Before you tie off your braid, pull out your pieces for fullness.
Step 8: Secure the braid with a bobby pin and tuck the ends into the beginning of the braid. I like to loop mine through the braid so it doesn't pop out throughout the day.

Day 7

I decided to do another braid for this last style since my previous one was a hit (salsa girl emoji). This one is a little simpler for you all to try! :)

Step 1: Dry shampoo! (This is second day hair) I also re-curled the top section just so I would have some volume and curls in my layers that would fall out of the braid, but this step is optional.
Step 2:  Backcomb the crown section for some volume.
Step 3: Section your backcombed part into three and start to do an underbraid. This just means you're taking the sections UNDER the others instead of over, this is what makes the braid sit on top of the hair.
Step 4: French braid the rest of the hair by taking small sections and incorporating them into the braid. I took no bigger than 1/2 inch sections. 
Step 5: Before tying the braid off, pull it apart for volume.
Step 6: Hide your elastic by taking a section of hair, teasing it, wrapping it around the elastic and keeping it in place with a bobby pin.

I like my braids to be messy, loose and have a lot of volume so I pull mine apart before I put my elastic and after. I also let lots of hair fall out (You can always pin it back with a bobby pin if it gets too messy).

Day 6

Sorry I didn't have a hairstyle for you guys yesterday, I just threw my hair up for work and it was NOT looking cute! Hopefully my post of all my products helped fill the void while I got it together for today LOL. Annnnd because I washed my hair Monday night I couldn't wait until tomorrow to wash my hair so my schedules a little thrown off now (super sad emoji).

Today, I was dead set on flat ironing my hair because I neeeeeever wear it straight. I always decide at the last minute to curl my hair and as you can see, I did it again! Oops, maybe next time (which what I say every other time I do this). Instead of curling it like I usually do, I decided to curl the entire section down to the ends. I'm not sure if it photographs the same as Day 1 but in person it looks a lot different than my usual waves. It looked a bit dressier than the waves I always wear in my hair and I was really liking the different look today. 

Step 1: Section the hair in half and pin the top section up. 
Step 2: Curl vertical 1 inch sections curling away from the face starting the curl in the midsection and slowly feeding the ends into iron until all the hair is wrapped around.
Step 3: Split the top section in half again (you'll end up curling 3 sections instead of 2 like Day 1) and repeat step 2.
Step 4: Bring down the rest of the hair and curl 1/2 inch sections to give more volume and curl to this top section.
Step 5: Once all the curls have cooled, comb through with a wide toothed comb. You can also recurl any pieces that don't have enough volume or just need to be frisked up a little bit.

Day 5

One class and a sushi lunch date makes for a greaaaaat Tuesday (my Monday). Also not having to brush my hair? Even better. I washed my hair last night before bed so I wore my hair completely natural today. I've figured out a trick for when your natural (or not natural) waves have gone flat that works like a charm. 

Once I've decided to wear my hair natural I will ONLY comb my hair in the shower. I've found that when I brush or comb my hair after it starts to dry my waves will be frizzy and a lot flatter than if I comb my hair while my conditioner is sitting on my hair. 

 Step 1: Shampoo & Condition your hair as you normally would. While the conditioner is sitting in your hair, comb through with a wide toothed comb. 
Step 2: With your towel, dry your hair as much as you can and as gently as you can. (Remember we won't be brushing our hair again so we want to keep it as smooth as possible)
Step 3: After the hair is about 50% dry, use a sea salt/texturizing spray. 
Step 4: Let your hair dry alllllll natural. Not heat styling today! :)

My favorite trick that I use when enhancing natural waves when your hair is already dry is to spray your hair lightly with water and then a small amount of sea salt spray. I feel like this works better than using sea salt spray alone on dry hair.

Day 4

Fourth day hair (cringing emoji). My Drybar dry shampoo is AMAZING but it doesn't work miracles. This day I have to make sure to keep my hair up and looking "put together". I went for a hike today, as I do on many Mondays, so I had a great excuse to pull it back. My favorite way to pull my hair back but also look cute is to put it in a braid. This one is a little more difficult to figure out on your own but so simple once you get it down. My hair braids better when its dirty so my fourth day hair is perfect. 

Step 1: Start with a heavy side part and brush all your hair over the shoulder you want your braid to fall on.
Step 2: Grab two small sections and start your fishtail braid by crossing one section UNDER to the opposite section. By crossing the pieces under you will get the "braid on top of the hair" effect. 
Step 3: With each new small section of your braid, include a small section from the rest of your hair (like a french braid) all the way to the nape of the head and then finish braiding down the hair.

Step 4: Before you tie the bottom off, pull the braid out the make it appear fuller and messier. You can pull the braid out to your discretion. Personally, I pull mine out a lot and I also mess the braid up more by rubbing the braid in my palm. 

I spray mine with hairspray and add some bobby pins because I have some layers that like to stick out and get too crazy for me.

To be real with you guys, during my hike it was SOOOOO windy and my hair ended up in a bun (super sad emoji) annndd my hair tie broke so it was a bit of a disaster. But can we talk about how beautiful it was. I love when I start my hike as the fog is burning off so its a bit chilly at first but by the time I finish its nice and sunny.

Day 3

Day 3: Day three is my last day of work until my "weekend" (one day off) so I like to sleep in as long as possible. This means a simple and I mean SIMPLE hairstyle. 



I don't even touch up my curls all I do is spray some dry shampoo (if I need it) and use my Tangle Teezer to give me some extra volume in my crown area and then pull all my hair back into a ponytail. I take a small section, tease it like theres no tomorrow and then wrap it around my elastic (hair tie, ponytail holder, etc.) to hide it from the world. And with that I am ready to conquer the crazy Sunday at work.

Day 2

Day 2 is my FAVORITE day (insert heart eye emoji here). My hair has volume everywhere (except my roots but thanks to the awesome DRYBAR dry shampoo I can achieve that too) and I can style my hair in the beachy, messy waves that I looooooooooove. 

Step 1: I spray my dry shampoo in my hair first thing when I wake up so once I go to style my hair (last thing I do before I leave) it has soaked up all my oils from the day/night before.
Step 2: I massage all the dry shampoo into my hair so I have no more "little gray hairs" (as I call them but its really just the dry shampoo residue LOL). 
Step 3: Sectioning my hair like the day before, I take 1 inch sections but I skip every other section. So I leave the lived in (aka worked & slept in) curls while curling every other section focusing the curl in the midsection leaving about two inches out of the curling iron.
Step 4: I go over the ends that were left out of my curling iron with my flat iron to give my hair more messy texture.
Step 5: I spray Redken Windblown all throughout my hair and I am good to go.

Day 1

Day 1: My work week starts on Friday, I work as a hairstylist for a chain haircut corporation. This is the day I have time in the morning before work to wash my hair, blow-dry it and style it for the weekend. My hair does not have ANY volume whatsoever on this day so instead of fighting a losing battle, I style my hair in soft waves with a middle part. (Curls start at Step 5)

Step 1: I wash my hair twice in the shower and condition only the ends of my hair bringing the left over product up towards the root.
Step 2: I use a leave in conditioner and a filler treatment before brushing my hair with my Tangle Teezer. 
Step 3: I mix together a anti-snap product and a blow dry lotion applying to the ends and working my way to the roots and then spray all my hair with Pillow Proof.
Step 4: Blow dry (I don't blow dry with a round brush or anything special)
Step 5: I section my hair into two halves and pin the top section up. 
Step 6: Curl 1 inch sections curling away from the face focusing the curl in the midsection of the hair. I leave about an inch to two inches of the ends out of the curling iron.
                Once the hair in the bottom section is completely curled, I repeat the same steps for the top section.
